Swinging and Dipping for Synergy Services' Annual Golf Tournament

Synergy Services is a Missouri-based organization who provides individuals and families with immediate relief from violence, and services help clients find and choose good options for future safety and success. In addition to their work to treat the effects of violence, Synergy provides supportive services to families in crisis in an effort to prevent violence.

Their annual golf tournament - Swing Fore Synergy - is a one day event to support Synergy's Street Outreach team, which canvases Greater Kansas City helping homeless young people. Tournament teams could register in advance online and showed up ready to play and donate.

The team strategically placed their 4 DipJars throughout the tournament: at their breakfast and lunch service, one DipJar was available for general donations and the other 3 moved to different holes throughout the day offering mulligans for $50, $75 or $100. As the DipJars changed locations throughout the day, Co-Executive Director Robin Shanberg Winner encouraged people to dip. Ultimately, the $100 donations outnumbered the lower amount dips combined!

While some people dipped for mulligans to stay competitive, some people dipped just for fun. “It’s about the ease of it, and how quick it is...the appeal of ‘stick your card in it and see what happens,’” says Claire Sundermeyer, Volunteer and Social Media Coordinator at Synergy Services. By logging in to the online dashboard on her cell phone, Sundermeyer was able to keep track of the total donated amount during the day and watch as the amount surpassed their goal.

When Sundermeyer and other members of the Synergy team got involved with other tournaments, she noted “you need to have cash to buy these mulligans...I’m about to call these people and say you have to get these DipJars!”
